Carolina’s record breaking season culminates in a rout of state rival Clemson Tigers in a 34-14 blowout. Gamecock QB Connor Shaw showed maturity by protecting the ball, running for 108 yards and a touchdown, while throwing for three more.

The SEC battle tested Gamecock’s defense was outstanding, holding the Tiger’s over-rated offense to 13 points. The Tigers hadn’t really faced a tough defense like Carolina, which is ranked #5 in the nation, and it showed. Clemson couldn’t get anything going on offense, only gaining 153 total yards. The Clemson Tigers were simply outclassed in this game.

If it were not for star running back Marcus Lattimore being injured in the Auburn game, the Gamecocks would most likely be playing for the SEC championship, in place of the Georgia Bulldogs, who Carolina has already beaten. Carolina should break into the top 10 with this win. Expect to see the Gamecocks get a high profile bowl game bid this year.

The Carolina Gamecocks are “for real” and they are positioned to only get better as next season arrives. Most experts consider the Gamecocks top contenders for the SEC championship in 2012.

The South Carolina Gamecocks got off to a shaky start on Saturday, turning the ball over 4 times and falling behind 24-14 at halftime, but they rallied in the second half of the game, going on to beat East Carolina by a final tally of 56-37.

South Carolina’s outstanding running back, Marcus Lattimore, took over the game in the 2nd half, running for 112 yards on 23 carries and scoring 3 touchdowns. Gamecock’s QB Stephen Garcia threw for one touchdown pass and ran for two more, after replacing an ineffective Connor Shaw in the 2nd quarter. Alshon Jeffery lead the receiving core with 5 catches for 96 yards.

Steve “the old ball coach” Spurrier guaranteed a special teams score this year and the Gamecocks wasted no time proving him right, as Ace Sanders ran a 69 yard punt return back for a touchdown.

This was an impressive opening win by the Gamecocks, who are favored to win the SEC east title again this year.

Carolina is in for a tough battle next week in their SEC opener, facing off against a ranked Georgia Bulldog team who is coming off a disappointing loss to Boise State. The game will be played between the hedges in Georgia.

The South Carolina Gamecocks rode the arm of Stephen Garcia in a 29-7 rout of the Clemson Tigers on Saturday. The Tigers were never in contention during the game, with the only spark coming in their first drive, which resulted in a touchdown.

Stephen Garcia was 14 of 30 for 227 yards and threw for two touchdowns, while Alshon Jeffery finished with five catches for 141 yards.

The Tigers’ game plan was to contain Marcus Lattimore and they were successful in that effort but the Gamecocks have a effective passing attack, which proved to be too much for Clemson.

The Gamecocks will face the undefeated Auburn Tigers for the SEC Championship on December 4th at the Georgia Dome. Auburn narrowly defeated the Gamecocks earlier in the year. A Carolina win could derail Auburn’s quest for a national championship.
